Make an Interpretation of Gender Differences in the Laumann et al Study
Interpretation of Gender Differences
Males are more likely to have a homosexual identity.
Question: Why?
Females are more likely to have homosexual desires, but males more often engage in homosexual behavior. Males who have a homosexual desire are more likely to engage in homosexual behavior.
Question: Why? Less inhibition? Does this disconfirm the thesis that males are more homophobic?
B) Kinsey
(1948, p.638) differentiated sexual behavior on a hetero B
homosexual continuum that is based on psychological reactions and overt
experience.

3.
Focus
Kinsey
does not focus on the number of different partners.
Why
do you think promiscuity was a bigger concern in the Lauman et al study?
I
could not find a Table listing number of sex partners in the Kinsey report.
Problems of
comparison to Laumann
Different conception of the homosexuality B bisexual B heterosexual continuum
Kinsey
uses psychological reactions and overt experience, Laumann the categories
of desire, identity and behavior
Kinsey
did not focus on the number of partners
Many
of Kinsey's
measures cover the whole lifespan
