What would be a contemporary life trajectory?

 

A) Indicate (name) age groups that have certain roles in common:

ages: 0-5  6-12   13-18  19-26   27-35   36-55  56-65  65-

B) What are the roles in this age groups?

 

 

Problems with Roles

 

Role Strain:   problems we experience in meeting the requirements of our roles. => Stress

 

A) Problems with one single Role

o    timing

o    role ambiguity

o    intra-role-conflict

 

B)  Problems having multiple Roles

o    inter-role-conflict

o    role-overload

 

How can we reduce role strain?

o     establish priorities

o     compartmentalization: subdividing our lives:

o     example: in the mornings we work, in the afternoons we take care of the kids.

o     Rites of Passage
