Who is Hyzer Soze?

 

West Texas grows cotton, cattle, Christians and football players.  It is a difficult environment to introduce any game that involves a Frisbee however in 1999 two groups who played “Frisbee football” combined and made a trip to Los Alamos for Lubbock’s first Ultimate tournament.  Calling themselves Lubbock Huckapallooza, the team lost every game by a combined score of 13-75.  Three months later, Lubbock won their first game at Santa Fe savage.  Since then, Lubbock has been second in the Texas section behind a world caliber Dallas Team. 

  Few outside of Texas know where Lubbock is and fewer still know there is any ultimate to be played in the area.  As Lubbock continued to improve, everyone’s question began with “who is the Lubbock team”?  Inspired by the mystique and myth generated by the Usual Suspects' Keyser Soze, Lubbock adopted, Hyzer Soze.  Hyzer is the term describing the angle of a release where the outer edge of the disc is lower than the grip edge.

Only four players remain from the original team from 1999 however they were present when Soze went undefeated to win their first tournament in the summer of 2003.  Learning the game in Lubbock, players in the past have gone on to play for nationals caliber teams including Otis and Shazaam,
