The American Indian in the 19th Century

The National Gallery of Art displays nearly 300 of George Catlin's paintings many of which depict Indian life during the 19th Century.

John Ross Chief of the Cherokee is the second feature of the Library of Congress, "Today in History," for October 3.

Portraits of some key American Indian leaders including Black Hawk, Sitting Bull, and Geronimo can be found at The National Portrait Gallery's "Native Americans," exhibit.

The Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian offers exhibits and other materials online.
