While taking a walk in the woods on a Sunday afternoon, Marty, an 11 year old boy, spots a lonely beagle roaming the forest alone. He notices that the was scared and malnourished. Marty takes on the responsibility of caring for the dog he names Shiloh and becomes forced to choose between what's right and wrong. Let's help Marty learn how to take care of Shiloh!
Imagine yourself in Marty's situation. You have discovered a dog that is obviously underfed and abused. As you decide to adopt this dog, research what you will need to do to be a great pet owner. You will also need to learn what to do and who to call about abused animals.
First, print out your process sheet so you will have your directions to help guide you. Second, your teacher will divide the class into groups of four. Next, you will need to assign duties to each group member. The duties are:
Pet Care - will research the proper way to care for pets. You will need to know about vet care, food, shelter, love, and attention.
Beagle Research - Find out more about beagles! What are their good and negative points? What do they eat? What are their hobbies? Who are some famous beagles?
Abused Animal Research - What are some signs to look for you think an animal is being abused? Who do you call? How do you handle the situation? What happens to abused animals after they have been rescued? What can you do to help? Remember to sign the guest book and request information on abused animals.
Secretary - The secretary will be in charge of organizing all of the information. He or she may want to put it in a 3 ring notebook or on a poster board. They may also choose alternate forms to present the material to the class.
Remember to print out all of the sites that your group visits! Your group will be evaluated on:
| Neatness | 25pts |
| Completion of WebQuest | 25pts |
| Presentation | 25pts |
| Participation | 25pts |
Well, we've come to the end of our quest. You should now know more about beagles and what they can do. You should also know how to handle animal abuse and how to care for an animal of your own. You also know how to help and what you can do for the animals in your community.
