Baseball 1865-1876

 


Baseball's popularity had spread to advertising by 1867 as illustrated by this tobacco ad, (Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division. Reproduction number: LC-USZC4-3227 (color)) this is another part of the excellent Library of Congress, "Early Baseball Pictures, " presentation.

Harry Wright (Image to right),manager of the Red Stockings, the Bostons, of the American Association and later in the National League, Library of Congress, Baseball Cards from the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection, LOT 13163-05, no. 264. This card is part of the outstanding Library of Congress presentation, "Baseball Cards, 1887-1914," and is searchable in several ways including player.
